Another tried-and-true method for promoting your show is to make sure your show’s information appears on local listservs, blogs, and event calendars as soon as the information is confirmed. Don’t sleep on these websites and print publications. They often post about a show weeks before the event, and local editors and writers check them out for potential editorial coverage. You can usually search for event listings and add your info yourself to their websites.

Here’s an obvious one. The clothes you wear when you’re on stage are a costume and you should think of them as such. Even just wearing your everyday street clothes is going to communicate something to the audience. It sounds annoying and unfortunate, but I guarantee that you do it too when you see a concert: judge a band based on their rags.

The building block of serialism is the 12-tone “row” in which all chromatic notes are articulated in an order chosen by the composer. The row can then be developed in several different ways. For example, inversion flips the vertical structure of the row (an inverted row will descend if it ascended before); retrograde motion plays the row in reverse.

The Songwriter’s Capital Gains Equity Act of 2006 is one of the few government regulations that actually helps songwriters earn more. The law allows songwriters who sell their catalog the option to treat those sales as capital gains rather than regular income. This is a unique benefit to songwriters that other creators, like performing artists or book authors, don’t share.

Here’s a curveball for you! Even though at this point, Pinterest has gotten so big I’m not technically sure it can be considered a blog anymore, it remains an excellent place to get inspired on almost every level. Whether hunting for beautiful imagery for your tour poster or album cover, or a quote to boost your idea generation, it’s definitely worth visiting when you’re wracking your brain.

“We had to go to the balcony in the middle of the hurricane, and grab the window, and shove it into place,” she says. “Then, the door started opening and closing; we had to tie the window to the door and pray that both of them wouldn’t fly away.”

In this scenario, it could be a push to get more people from their town to follow you on socials in order to get you back there sooner, or promising a free piece of merch or guest list spot in return for getting more people to follow you on socials.

Key-wise, I feel like there’s almost too much tonal information for everyone to hear it the same. If it was just up to the melody, I’d say hands down G major because the melody starts and ends on G the majority of the time (where has that pun been all my life?). However, there’s a clear E in the bass under the G at certain cadence points, making for a v chord (Em11) leading us back to Am, which comes on the strong beat. These are two good reasons to hear it in A Dorian.

My intro-level music tech classes usually include a wide range of production and songwriting abilities. Some students have never used a computer for any creative purpose whatsoever, while others are already accomplished bedroom producers or DJs. I get tracks that are complete, polished works of art, and tracks that are in total shambles. So rather than try to compare these efforts to each other, I use a growth mindset.

Lalita had some help in that scramble to barricade her bedroom window. Her mother and sister, their cat, and her brother and girlfriend and their four cats, all took shelter in the apartment she shares with three roommates (and more cats). Later, they had to work together to stop the flooding while rain relentlessly poured into her living room, where her brother had been sleeping on a mat on the floor and awoke abruptly, realizing he was soaking wet.

If you’re just a beginner at recording and doing things at home, great — in this article, we’ll go over phase issues like phase cancellation, why those issues are important to look out for, and how to deal with them. And if you’re a seasoned engineer, there might be some information here that you can brush up on.

Gorgeous though the chaconne is, my enjoyment has been hampered by my inability to figure out the rhythm. All classical performers insist on doing extremely expressive (read: loose) timekeeping. I don’t have the sarabande rhythm internalized well enough to be able to track it through everybody’s gooey rubato. Bach’s rhythms are complicated enough to begin with. He loves to start and end phrases in weird spots in the bar (the very first note of the piece is on beat two) — so, I needed some help finding the beat.

The Who is the Who. They are expected to break their instruments, light them on fire, and treat them with the utmost disrespect. Even in their early years, they had made quite a name for themselves doing so. When the band appeared on the Smothers Bros Comedy Hour in 1967, however, drummer Keith Moon, always one to push limits, put 10 times the normal amount of gunpowder in his kick drum. This not only shocked the audience and people watching at home, but surprised the host and the rest of his band when everything started exploding at the end of the song.
